Ebay bought Skype for 1 Billion.
Google buys Writely.com – web based word processor.
I hate when companies act like this, they earn billions of dollars and stop acting efficient and one day they become complacent and act like a Microsoft.
for Google, do I see a wave of people getting rid of Office and going to use Writely? No, why? because convenience, why would I use a web based program when I have a better quality one on my desktop?. are businesses likely to switch to writely? nope.
what Businesses use in the office the employee is more likely to use at home (example of this is Spreadsheet and Apple.)
I don’t see a future in webbased office products. if their is a market its a small market. The platform based programs are so much efficient. I don’t need to goto writely.com, login and what if my net connection goes out? Firefox crashes or IE crashes. and why would I want my documents on a public server, say if it was a business plans, financials, research. some workers might try to break in and steal my work.
and for software bought by download only? nope, no future either? why? because the user will want a back up of it. why would I pay 20-60 dollars for a download and what if the file gets deleted or if the company no longer would host my file on their server?. yup yup
It’s just too new (or pointless)and I think Google is yesterdays news. Its like the WebBased OS. its kinda idiotic, why would I want another OS running when another one is Running ontop of it? if I knew Google was going to buy a webbased Word processor I wouldve coded one and tell them they could buy mine.
It’s like Skype being bought for 1 Billion dollars. It’s really stupid and ebay and all these tech companies are just going on a waste money rampage where their business doesn’t need skype, they couldve hired 10 programmers and created a copy of skype by themselves for cheap.
looks like this Eric Schmidt guy isn’t all cracked up to be
